Micha d’Oliveira

Micha d’Oliveira has done a Bachelor's degree in Applied Biology in the Netherlands. There he got interested in insects and quickly specialized in flies, also joining the Diptera section of the Dutch Entomological Society. The keys to the Dutch and Belgian crane flies inspired him to focus his efforts on the Limoniidae. Having worked on Palaearctic (Netherlands, Balkan, Mongolia etc.) crane flies he has now switched mainly to the Neotropical fauna, working on the taxonomy and phylogeny of the immensely diverse and beautiful subfamily Chioneinae. He recently co-authored an overview and checklist of the crane flies of the West Indies, and with it reporting new species for Bonaire, Saba and other Caribbean islands. Saba now has two known species of crane fly, which is probably only a fraction of the real diversity.
