Lars Ter Horst

Lars ter Horst is Restoration Coordinator at Reef Renewal Foundation Curaçao, an organization focusing mainly on the asexual restoration of reef building corals. He earned his Bsc in Coastal- and Marine Management at Van Hall University of Applied sciences, and after a few side quests he developed a strong interest in coral reef ecosystems. He pursued his MSc in Freshwater- and Marine Biology at the University of Amsterdam, focusing on improving methods used for sexual coral restoration, and unraveling the identities of Benthic Cyanobacterial Mats. Now residing on Curaçao, Lars is deeply invested in the ecological interactions happening on the local reefs. With the ocean as his backyard, he spends his days observing and studying the diverse marine life of this beautiful southern Caribbean island. By getting to know the reef, and telling its stories, he aims to leverage coral restoration efforts. Think of aggressive damselfish that interfere with clients at goby cleaning stations, fast growing hydrocorals that can create habitat for slower growing corals, or ferocious coral eating snails.

If you're eager to uncover the secrets of the reef and its vibrant inhabitants, join Lars for a public presentation, or even a dive to explore the fascinating stories of coral reefs together. Join Lars for a dive that makes a difference by outplanting settled corals and broodstock colonies, helping to restore vibrant marine ecosystems!

Lars will be on Saba October 20-27.

Presentation: October 23

Field Project: October 24
