Aglaia Bouma

After a near fatal incident with a hornet (which aren’t particularly dangerous wasps, but can trigger an allergic reaction in a fraction of people) Aglaia developed an insect phobia that lasted over 20 years. To overcome her fears, she started studying insects and eventually became an entomologist with a mission to make humans appreciate, or even love, insects more. She is now a researcher entomology at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, teaches entomology during a Flora & Fauna course at the University of Amsterdam and is the author of several popular scientific books on insects.
